That’s right, the moment has finally happened. At this year’s 88th annual Academy Awards, Leonardo DiCaprio has won an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in The Revenant.  With at least 5 Oscar nominations to his name and one producer nomination, DiCaprio has finally gotten an Oscar.

In order to highlight what a momentous occasion it was for DiCaprio, he was the only actor whose speech was not cut off. He proceeded to thank his director Alejandro González Iñárritu and co-star Tom Hardy, he also courted something a little different. Not one to  shy from controversy, DiCaprio used time from his acceptance speech to also address the issue of climate change.

DiCaprio plays legendary explorer Hugh Glass, who after a brutal bear attack leaves him maimed and injured, must use all his skills to find a way back home.
