The first necklace was produced for the Duchess of Windsor almost fifteen years after she herself had suggested the idea.
This first piece was the starting point for a line of Zip necklaces that introduced different coloured stones and reinterpreted the original design, but was always based on the mechanism of the sliding fastener.
From that time onwards, whenever an elegant woman wore the emblematic necklace from Van Cleef & Arpels and slid open the fastener, the gems sparkled and magic entered the room…
Zip necklaces carry with them all the history and expertise of Van
Cleef & Arpels.
Emblematic expression of the Maison’s innovative craftsmanship, the iconic Zip necklace works exactly like an ordinary “zipper”:
the closure slides up and down which allows the creation to be left partially open or even closed entirely to form a bracelet.
This piece harmoniously combines technical ingenuity and design. The transformability gives it a playful yet functional character which perfectly matches the spirit of the Maison since 1951.
